It’s 1940’s New York City and technological advances are making it more common place for homes to have telephones. The chatty, sassy, and borderline erratic Lucy is enamored by her telephone… her loving boyfriend Ben is also there. The sweet and patient Ben wishes to propose to Lucy before he has to leave for a business trip, but his efforts continuously get interrupted by friends of Lucy calling on the telephone. The bright colors and flowy fabrics of Lucy’s outfit amplify her emotional outbursts, while the muted, sensible attire of Ben highlights his grounded demeanor.
