The year is 2005, teenagers- including protagonist Rhea Fortin- are wearing cargo pants, low-rise jeans, velour, and layering their t-shirts. Moving during your senior year of high school would be tough for anybody, but it’s been especially tough for Rhea because of her parents’ divorce and her introverted, closed off nature. The one place Rhea feels at home is on the ice as a hockey goalie, but after trying out for her new school’s all-boy team, she must navigate her place in the sport amidst a disparaging mother, Lynn, disapproving coach, Jack, and school popular boy/bully, Jordan. Rhea’s journey and inner struggle is represented through her style, which is a blend of athletic wear and emo/post-punk styles.
